National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center
The National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center near Dayton aims to educate the public about African American history and culture from African origins to the present through a variety of programs, including museum exhibits, research and publications, visiting scholars, oral and visual history and adult and children's educational activities. The museum's permanent exhibition, From Victory to Freedom: Afro-American Life in the Fifties, explores African American experiences in America's history from 1945 with the ending of World War II, to 1965 with passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1964. Krohn Conservatory
As one of the largest public greenhouses in the world, the Krohn Conservatory in Northern Kentucky contains 5,000 varieties of exotic, tropical, and desert plants and six beautiful seasonal floral shows. Krohn Conservatory in Eden Park is itself architecturally significant, having been built in 1933 at the height of the charming Art Deco era. But it’s what inside those aluminum and glass walls that make Krohn Conservatory truly special. Our “world” changes throughout the year with special exhibits and programs. Don't forget to visit the rainforest waterfall and exotic plants on permanent display in the Palm, Tropical, Desert and Orchid houses.
World Peace Bell
You'll want to make a stop in Newport, KY, to visit the World Peace Bell, the largest, free-swinging bell in the world. Weighing in at 66,000 pounds and measuring 12 feet high and 12 feet wide, the bell was designed and cast by Cincy's own Verdin Bell Company, one of the largest bell-making companies in the world. Installed in 1999, the bell was originally crafted to be rung on the International Day of Peace, in 2000. Since then, the bell has become an icon for the city of Newport and marks the location for many events and civic gatherings. Visit the World Peace Bell Center adjacent to the landmark to pick up souvenirs.
Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden
The world famous Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden was recently rated #1 attraction in Cincinnati and in the top 15 attractions nationally by Zagat Survey. The Cincinnati Zoo is located in the Cincinnati neighborhood of Avondale. The zoo conducts breeding programs, especially for cheetahs, black rhinoceros, white Bengal tigers, and lowland gorillas. Cincinnati Art Museum
The Cincinnati Art Museum is one of the oldest art museums in the United States. Founded in 1881, it was the first purpose-built art museum west of the Alleghenies. Its collection of over 60,000 works makes it one of the most comprehensive collections in the Midwest.
The museum houses a review of 5,000 years of visual art through painting, prints, photographs, sculpture, drawings, musical instruments, costumes, period rooms, and decorative arts, complemented by a year-round schedule of temporary exhibits and programs. Penguin Encounters at the Newport Aquarium
This fun 20-minute experience at the Newport Aquarium allows guests to see three Blackfooted penguins up-close and personal. Led by an experienced biologist, a typical visit may include a chance to touch the penguins, see them waddle, swim, shake their tails and jump into and out of their Penguin pool. Plus, photos are permitted to capture the memory forever. These South African birds live in a temperate environment in the behind-the-scenes Penguin House, so no coats are needed.
